Gas appliances need a gas installer's licence — not an electrician's. Gas is a separate trade and a separate licence and I'm not going to fudge that one. My family business has a gas-licensed partner I route customers to when the job needs gas work.
What I do directly is the electrical side around gas appliances. Modern gas hot water units have electric ignition, pumps and controls running on 240V. Gas cooktops with electric ignition. Gas wall heaters with electric fans. All of that needs proper electrical work — dedicated circuits where the appliance demands it, isolators, switchboard capacity if you're adding a new big-load gas appliance.

Why can't electricians do gas work?
Different licence, different trade, different apprenticeship. Gas mistakes kill people in different ways than electrical mistakes — the regulators keep them separate for good reason.
What does it mean if my gas cooktop has electric ignition?
It needs a 240V supply for the spark generator. That's my side of the job. The gas plumbing's the partner's side.
How do you coordinate with the gas partner?
